Independent Antique Fine Arts Appraisals
CONSULTING SERVICES:
Anne Weston & Associates, LLC provides a full complement of fine and decorative art services.

We offer a confidential consulting service for the placement of item(s) in the most relevant auction venue. Our services include the initial appraisal of the object; the determination of the proper market for the sale of that object; negotiation of the seller's commission, insurance charges etc,; transport of the object to the chosen venue; and attention to the details of cataloguing and sale. We have recently handled the sale of an Irish painting in the London salerooms (the painting was from an estate in New England) for over $300,000; the sale of an Egyptian travel book with accompanying color portfolio (sold in London for $15,000); and the auction of an American federal card table which sold in New York for $58,000.

We just negotiated the placement of an entire estate between two different auction houses with very favorable commission rates for the family. Since the larger auction houses tend to only want those items with a value above $5,000, it is increasingly important to work creatively to ensure that all items are sold in the best venues. In this particular case, those items under $5,000 were consigned to a smaller auction house where the buyer's premium was less (typically an important consideration for those purchasers of smaller value properties) and the auction house has a stronger web auction presence. The smaller objects will not be slotted in "dealer" lots, but instead be sold individually in the auction that is most appropriate for them. An "on-time" web auction ensures an increased buyer's involvement.
